Phuket is Thailand's fitness island. People fly in for a month of Muay Thai, a weight-loss camp or a yoga retreat, and plenty of residents just want a good gym near home. The island is bigger than it looks on a map, though, so where you stay decides where you train. This guide walks through the island by district, with live lists from our directory.

Mueang Phuket: Chalong, Rawai, Kata and Phuket Town

The south of the island is where most training holidays happen. Soi Ta-iad in Chalong is known as Phuket's "fitness street": Muay Thai and MMA camps, strength gyms, healthy cafes and guesthouses sit side by side, and many visitors never leave the street for weeks. Rawai and Nai Harn are quieter and popular with long-stay visitors. Phuket Town has local gyms at local prices.

Kathu: Patong and Kamala

Patong is the busiest beach town on the island, and its gyms are used to walk-ins: day passes are easy to get, and several places open late. Kathu, just over the hill, is where many residents live and train.

Thalang: Bang Tao, Cherngtalay and the north

The north-west coast around Bang Tao and Laguna has grown fast, with newer, more premium gyms and studios aimed at villa residents and families. Expect higher prices and better air-conditioning.

Muay Thai camps in Phuket

Phuket has one of the largest concentrations of Muay Thai camps in the country, from fight teams to beginner-friendly schools. Three questions help you choose:

  1. Training only, or a package? Many camps sell packages with a room and meals. If you already have accommodation, ask for the training-only price.
  2. How many sessions a day? Two sessions a day, six days a week is normal for fighters and a lot for a beginner. Most camps let you pay per session or per week.
  3. Group or private? Group classes are cheaper; one-to-one sessions are where technique improves fastest.

A note on prices

Many Phuket gyms and camps publish prices only on social media, and they change between high and low season. Where we know a price, the gym's page shows it with the source and the date we checked. If a page shows no price, call or message the gym before you go.
