What you get for the money

  • Budget local gyms (often under ฿150) usually have free weights, older machines and fans instead of air-con. Many are run by former bodybuilders and are very good value.
  • Mid-range gyms (around ฿150–300) tend to have air-con, newer equipment and showers.
  • Premium clubs and international chains (฿350 and up) add pools, saunas, classes and 24/7 access, but some only sell day passes reluctantly or charge a "tourist" rate.

How to avoid paying the tourist price

  1. Ask for the weekly or 10-visit card. Many gyms sell them but don't advertise them, and they often beat a string of day passes from day four or five.
  2. Check the monthly price. If you're staying three weeks, one month is often cheaper than 15 day passes.
  3. Ask whether the price includes a towel and locker. Some gyms charge extra.
  4. Bring your passport or a copy. Some gyms ask for ID before handing out a day pass.
