A modern gym high above Bangkok at dusk, with the skyline through the windows

Bangkok has more than a thousand gyms, from ฿1,350-a-month neighbourhood weight rooms to health clubs with rooftop pools. "Best" depends on what you want: a place to lift at 2 am, a pool and sauna after work, or a boxing class that leaves you on the floor. This list covers all of that, with the prices and opening hours we have on file for each gym. Everything below is pulled live from our listings, so it stays current.

How we picked

We chose from the gyms with the most complete, verified information in our directory: facilities, opening hours and prices we could check on the gym's own website or with the gym. No gym paid to be here, and we don't use review scores. Where a chain has many branches we name one and link to the rest.

1. Virgin Active Sathon: the full health club

Pool, sauna, big class timetable and a central location. The most complete club experience in the city centre if you want more than a weight room. Memberships are sold on a quote basis, so ask for the current offer; the Sathon club is one of several in Bangkok.

2. Fitness First Sukhumvit: the city-wide membership

The largest chain in Bangkok, with branches in most shopping malls. One membership opens all of them, which makes it the practical choice if you move around the city for work. Expect premium pricing and good equipment; day passes are usually available as a trial.

3. Fitness 7 Chaengwattana: best value, open 24 hours

Air-con, classes, showers, lockers and parking, open around the clock, for ฿1,600 a month or a ฿350 day pass. It is out in Lak Si rather than the centre, which is exactly why it is this cheap. The best deal in the city for anyone living in the north of Bangkok.

4. Jetts 24 Hour Fitness: 24/7 at a fair price

Jetts is the chain to pick if you want 24-hour access without health-club prices. Around ฿1,550 to ฿1,750 a month depending on the branch, with classes included. The Phaya Thai branch is central and air-conditioned; there are branches across the city.

5. Fitness24Seven Khlong Toei: the cheapest 24-hour gym near Sukhumvit

A Scandinavian chain with no-frills clubs that never close. The Khlong Toei branch lists ฿1,399 a month, with showers and lockers. If you live along the lower Sukhumvit line and train at odd hours, this is hard to beat.

6. Training Ground: for serious strength training

A strength and conditioning gym in Vadhana with coached sessions, open from 6 am. The ฿700 day pass tells you the market: this is for people who want racks, platforms and coaching rather than treadmills.

7. BASE Sathorn: group training that feels like a sport

BASE runs coached class-based sessions, strength and conditioning in a group format, rather than open-floor training. It is the pick if you want to be pushed and don't want to plan your own workouts.

8. Bangkok Fight Lab: MMA, boxing and jiu-jitsu

One of the city's best-known fight gyms, in Khlong Toei. ฿600 for a drop-in class and ฿6,500 a month for unlimited training across the disciplines. Beginners are welcome; the classes are structured by level.

9. FitFac Muay Thai Ploenchit: Muay Thai in an air-conditioned studio

FitFac is a chain of modern Muay Thai studios: air-con, clean mats, classes in the afternoon and evening. Not a fight camp, which is the point: you learn Muay Thai without sleeping next to a ring. ฿950 for a class and ฿5,500 a month, with branches in Ari, Sathon, Ekamai and elsewhere.

10. Fitness Life Suan Luang: the local gym at local prices

Air-con, showers, parking, a ฿200 day pass and ฿1,350 a month. Nothing fancy, which is why it belongs here: this is what a good neighbourhood gym in Bangkok costs when you leave the Sukhumvit malls behind.

Which one is right for you?

  • Only in town for a few days: buy day passes. Fitness Life (฿200) and Fitness 7 (฿350) are the cheapest on this list; Training Ground and Bangkok Fight Lab are worth the higher price if you want coaching.
  • Living here, training at night: Jetts or Fitness24Seven, whichever branch is closest. Check the branch you'd use, because prices differ.
  • Want a pool and sauna: Virgin Active, or one of the hotel gyms that sell memberships.
  • Want to learn to fight: Bangkok Fight Lab for MMA and boxing, FitFac for Muay Thai in comfort, or one of the Muay Thai gyms in Bangkok for a real camp.
